The Zeroth Fundamental Force

November 21, 2009

When I read for my degree in physics I learnt there were four fundamental forces of nature.

Today I read irrefutable evidence that there is only one fundamental force of nature that rules over all others: the force of politics.

James Delingpole has uncovered chilling evidence of political machinations behind so-called scientific research into so-called Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW).

AGW has been a convenient quasi-religion for the political elite: a 21st century opiate for the masses.  Something to fear, something on which to focus our attention whilst politicians destroy our democracy and fiddle their expenses.  Something to provide us with a “new economy” and save us from an economic death spiral that was created by the political elite in the first place.

I doubt that James Delingpole’s revelations will get widespread press attention and will only be of interest to “domestic extremists” and “climate change deniers” but it comforts me to see him trying in the face of such political opposition.  Rock on, James!

Show Insects Respec’, Children to be Told

November 17, 2009

Environmentalism’s march towards full-fledged religion took another step recently as the Department for Children, Schools and Families issued guidance to teachers that our children should be taught about the needs of insects.

No doubt, after Peter Oborne’s documentary last night on the Pro-Israel Lobby, they’ll likely be taught that the needs of Palestinian children are best met by showering them in white phosphorous.

I used to laugh at a colleague who told me “perception is reality”.  I shudder in the realisation that he was utterly correct.

Dangerous Shopper Lost by Prison Service

November 15, 2009

A convicted murderer described by police as dangerous and not to be approached by the public has been lost by the prison service.

Despite being a dangerous murderer serving an indefinite sentence — and convicted only three years ago — the prison service lost her whilst out on an “escorted shopping trip”.

You can imagine the next Alan Johnson announcement: “we’re re-introducing capital punishment: shop till you drop,” or Alistair Darling proclaiming Broken Britain’s 21st century version of the chain gang: cohorts of convicts out on the streets shopping us back to economic health.

God, give me strength.

Unborn Child “at risk” Due to Undecorated House

November 10, 2009

Via the telegraph:

With a broadened remit as agents of social change, the police are now taking it upon themselves to judge the fitness of people to be parents based on such things as the state of decor of their homes.

This is appalling state sanctioned social engineering.  Of course it won’t work and in the meantime scores more children will die whilst really unfit parents and child abusers run amok in society unchecked.

We’re losing the plot and I haven’t seen anything from the Tories that suggests these trends will be reversed.

Give Gordon Brown a Break

November 10, 2009

It’s not often I stand up for Gordon Brown.

However, I feel I must say something about the recent “handwritinggate” affair running its course in the tabloid media.

It is wholly right that Gordon Brown should write a personal letter to each of the families bereaved by the conflict in the Middle East and he should be respected for that.

It is right too, that Brown apologised for seemingly misspelling one of the late soldier’s names.

So what’s the problem?

There isn’t one.

The Sun has overstepped the mark in an otherwise slow news week.

Government’s Latest Balls-Up: Sex & Drugs Lessons From Age 5

November 5, 2009

I despair:

Why can’t they leave our children alone?  This is yet another tickbox for Ofsted savvy teachers and further sexualisation of young children.

The burdens on four and five year olds are immense now (my four year old recently had to give a five minute speech on Batman, for instance).

At these tender young ages children should be learning only a few things: self-esteem and social skills and that school is a positive and good place to be.

Tories to Curb Binge Drinking

November 2, 2009

Although I have a great deal of respect for Chris Grayling, my local MP, I have a growing sense of disquiet the more I read of what he’s proposing for post-broken Britain.

Reading in the Telegraph today that he intends to stop supermarkets from choosing their own prices for alcohol makes me very wary indeed.  Also, although he rightly wants to push powers down to local people when it comes to licensing premises the whole approach is NuLab-esque: put in place new and badly thought up rules in a hope to shape people’s behaviour.

Until a government forgets soundbites and short-term media-led government Britain will remain broken.

Supermarkets should decide how best to price the products they sell.  Local people and local government should have power over things that have an affect on the lives of local people.

When it comes to binge drinkers: let them binge drink, let them stab each other and vomit in the street.  Then round them up, try them under existing laws and punish them properly.  They’ll soon get the message.

Thinking up rules for social engineering that look good when reported in the Daily Mail hasn’t worked for over a decade and it won’t start working when the Tories are in power.
